Off Season Is Half Over But It Has
Been Eventful
|
The off season is half over but it has
been an eventful one for Bill Thomas Racing. The team can see
the light at the end of the tunnel and the long-awaited 2005
racing season.
On Jan. 22, Bill Thomas, driver of the number 21 Choice Sports
Cards 600cc microsprint car, finished 13th in the Atlantic
City Indoor Race held in Boardwalk Hall.
In the first practice Friday, the car's setup was off and the
team had to lower the car to adapt to the concrete race track.
The car was good enough for Bill to qualify 26th of 82 cars
and start ninth in the heat race. He finished fifth, one spot
from transferring directly to the A-main.
In the Saturday morning qualifying race, Bill started 20th and
finished 12th. Then came the snow. It only rained in Atlantic
City but heavy snow fell on the rest of New Jersey and
Pennsylvania. New Jersey officials declared a state of
emergency and tried to shut down the races. Race promoter Len
Sammons persuaded state authorities to allow the racing to
continue until 9 p.m. The race program was modified to allow
this to happen. All mains left to race were canceled and the
rest of the A-main was filled by qualifying times.
Bill started 24th in the A-main. On the last lap, his
right-front spindle broke, sending the tire bouncing off the
wall and back onto the track. Bill held on and finished 13th
on three wheels!
Racing ended right on time at 9 p.m. The team had to wait to
come home Sunday, since New Jersey was still in a state of
emergency and only official emergency vehicles were allowed on
the roads. The team made it home OK.
Bill Thomas racing welcomes Stewart Warner Performance as a
product sponsor. Located in Lancaster, PA, Stewart Warner has
100 years of making innovative gauges and helping winning
performers.

On Jan. 14 to 16, BTR displayed the car at the Sunoco
Motorsports show in Fort Washington PA. The team was in the
Linda's Speedway booth. Owner and crew chief Bill Thomas
attended many informative racing-related seminars, such as the
ABC's of Race Team Sponsorship, Sprint Car Chassis setup,
Shock School, Racing and Taxes to Legal Issues for Race Teams
and Tracks.

Billy Thomas Named Bridgeport Speedway's 'Star of the Future'
|
Billy Thomas,
driver of the Number 21 Choice Sports Cards 600cc MicroSprint car,
was named Bridgeport Speedway's ``Star of the Future'' at the annual
awards banquet held Dec. 4 at Dover Downs International Speedway,
Dover, Delaware.
With his girlfriend Heather Preston in attendance, Billy received
the well-deserved award, which was inscribed: ``The New Bridgeport
Speedway 600 Micro Sprints `Star of the Future' Sponsored by
Bridgeport Bandit/Program Dynamics 2004.'''
Billy finished sixth in points in the 600ccMicroSprint class at
Bridgeport. At Airport Speedway in Delaware, he finished third in
points, only 24 points out of first place. Airport Speedway's annual
banquet was held Nov. 13 at the Middletown Fire Hall in Middletown.
Delaware.
Bill Thomas Racing tried to compete in Bridgeport's end of the year
MicroSprint Open Nov. 17 but the rain got in the way. Billy got only
one practice session under his belt and had his qualifying run
rained-out. The event was canceled and will be made up sometime next
year.
We would like to say Happy Holidays to all and wish everyone a Merry
Christmas and a Happy New Year. We'd especially like to thank all
our sponsors for supporting us all year long and helping us to
achieve a very successful 2004 race season.
The racing for this year is complete and we are looking forward to
the 2005 season. We're planning for the indoor race at Atlantic City
Convention Hall January 21 and 22, 2005 and will display our car
once again at the Sunoco Motorsports Show at the Fort Washington
Expo Center on January 14, 15 and 16, 2005.
We again invite everyone to visit our sponsor page and see links to
their own web sites. Our web site just received an award from
GetaSponsor.com: ``The Racers Choice Award for Web Site
Excellence.'' See the trophy we received on our web site.
Team Plans
BTR is looking to sell our 600cc Hyper MicroSprint car and upgrade
to a new car. We'd lile to switch from a coil over car to a bar car.
We would like to thank our sponsors and the fans who supported us
throughout the year. Without them this would not be possible. We
will be contacting our current sponsors to sign on for next year and
looking for new sponsors to help us upgrade our racing team and
possibly move up into a higher class of racing. We invite anyone who
is interested in becoming a part of BTR to give us a call and talk
about Marketing opportunities.
We're currently looking to incorporate into our team a local
school/class to become an honoree of the race team, preferably a
class from the Rose Tree Media School district, where Billy went to
school. We are in the process of working out all the details. If
anyone is interested, e-mail us at
BillThomasRacing@comcast.net
or call 610-876-3781

Bill Thomas Scores Top-Fives At Bridgeport And Airport Speedways
|
Bill Thomas,
driver of the Bill Thomas Racing No. 21 Choice Marketing
SportsCards 600cc micro-sprint race car, has scored several top five
finishes at Bridgeport Speedway in New Jersey and Airport Speedway
in New Castle, Del.
Bill came in second at Airport on June 19 and second at Bridgeport
on July 2 and Aug. 27. He scored a third-place finish at Bridgeport
on July 9 and fourth-place finishes at Airport on Aug. 7 and
Bridgeport on Aug. 21 and Aug. 28.
Bill, in his third season of 600cc micro-sprint competition, is
currently in first place in the point standings at Airport and third
in points at Bridgeport. He looks forward to heated points battles
at both tracks, where feature races are scheduled to be run through
October.
Team co-sponsor Dream Stitches, Inc., has moved to new, larger
location in Aston Township, Delaware County. The company is now at
4712 Pennell Road, at the front of the shopping center, next to the

Matt Hasson Writing Daily Times Auto Racing Column
Independent Journalist Matt Hasson, who writes press releases for
Bill Thomas Racing, is now writing the Delaware County Daily Times'
weekly Auto Racing column, normally published every Thursday.
Matt took over the column in late July, after the death of longtime
columnist Walt Chernokal. Matt writes complete summaries of every
weekend's action at Bridgeport, along with commentaries about
NASCAR, Indy Racing League, Formula One and other ``major league''
racing series.
Matt, 44, a longtime racing fan, was thrilled to take over the
column, which Chernokal had written for 36 years. ``Walt left some
pretty big shoes to fill,'' said Matt. ``I was both excited and a
little scared to take over the column. But Bill Thomas Racing and
the folks at Bridgeport have been very accommodating and helpful. I
know that with good information fueled by my love for motor sports,
I can write a column that is remotely as good as Walt Chernokal's.
Wherever you are, Walt, I hope my column continues your fine
legacy!''
Matt also credited Bridgeport Speedway publicist Arianne Hegeman,
who sends Matt weekly news releases with thorough race results and
point standings. Matt extended special thanks to Bridgeport Promoter
Dave Adams and, especially, Daily Times Sports Editor Tom McNichol,
who accepted Matt's offer to take over the column after Chernokal's
passing.
To give Matt story tips and feedback about his weekly racing column,
e-mail him at
thehassman@earthlink.net.

Bill Thomas Leads 600cc Point Standings At Airport Speedway
|
Billy Thomas, driver of the Thomas Motorsports No. 21 Choice
Sportscards 600cc Micro Sprint car, is leading in points in the
600cc class at Airport Speedway. He has been in the championship
lead since the third week of the season in late April.
In only his third season of Micro Sprint competition, Billy is a
consistent front-runner at Airport Speedway in New Castle, Del., and
Bridgeport Speedway in Bridgeport, NJ.
Late May and early June were a mixed bag for BTR and the No. 21
Choice Sportscards 600cc Micro Sprint car. Races at Bridgeport were
rained out May 21 and June 11. Airport Speedway was rained out June
5. Still, Billy's recent race record is impressive:
* Qualified fifth and finished first at Airport Speedway, May 15.
* Qualified eighth and finished second at Airport, May 22.
* Qualified 24th and finished 12th at Bridgeport Speedway, May 28.
* Qualified 12th and finished 11th at Linda's Speedway, Jonestown,
PA, June 4.
* Qualified eighth and finished seventh at Airport, June 12.
Billy started third in the heat at Bridgeport May 28. At the start,
the second place car tried to take Billy's inside spot, cut Billy
off and forced him into the inside wall. Billy went on a wild,
flipping ride but was unhurt.
BTR had to rebuild the top wing and front end, but the car was
repaired in time to make the feature race. Billy started in the back
but managed to finish in 12th place.
On May 29, with Airport Speedway closed for the Memorial Day
Weekend, BTR went to Middleford Speedway in Seaford, Del., for the
first time this season. After some setup problems in the heat, Billy
qualified for the feature and took the lead after three laps. But
only one lap later, Billy spun, flipped and was hit by the second
place car on the frontstretch. He got out of the car unhurt. The
team inspected the car and found that a broken rear axle had caused
Billy's accident. The team was able to repair the car in time for
the June 4 race at Linda's Speedway. At Linda's, Billy qualified
12th and finished 11th, a nice comeback after the previous week's
accident.
On June 4, the team received long-awaited Bill Thomas Racing team
T-Shirts, which can be viewed and purchased on the BTR web site:
www.BillThomasRacing.com. You can also call (610) 876-3781 to order
T-shirts or BTR hats.
BTR welcomes its newest associate sponsor: Steamfitters Local Union
420.
Crew chief Bill has been a member in good standing with 420 for 24
years. Members of Local 420 are career-oriented and proud of their
heritage, superior training and opportunities offered in their
field.
The sky is the limit for graduates of the ``educational local.''
With youth programs, scholarship funds, specialized educational
programs, active participation in local and regional affairs, and
vested retirement and health programs to protect its members, Local
420 is taking care of its people.
Local 420 contributes to future employment opportunities and
supports efforts to revitalize Philadelphia in order to attract new
businesses and new employment opportunities for all residents of the
Philadelphia metropolitan area. |

Bill's impressive record since April 30 is:

* Airport Speedway, May 1, started first and finished seventh.
* Bridgeport Speedway, May 7, started 13th and finished seventh.
* Airport Speedway, May 8, started seventh and finished fourth.

Bill Thomas Wins At
Airport Speedway!!!!!
|
Bill Thomas
got his first win of the young 2004 season--a heat and feature
race--during the second event of the season at Airport Speedway on
Saturday, April 24. After a frustrating first week of racing, he
came back with a
vengence, winning the heat and feature in dominating fashion.
He started third in his heat and passed for the lead on the first
lap and never looked back. For the feature, he started second,
on the outside pole. As the green flag fell, he made a move on the
outside and came out of the turn leading the race. He set a
blistering pace, lapping slower cars and working his way through
traffic. He never gave up the lead, even through numerous cautions
and restarts.
Bill thanked his dad Bill, mom Debbie, sister Missy and his Grand Pa
and Grand Ma for all of their support. He also extended special
thanks to all of the sponsors for giving him this opportunity:
Choice Marketing, Herman Goldner Co., Thornton Fabrication, Hyper
Race Cars, Yoder & Armstrong, Bruce's Auto Body, Matt Hasson, Dream
Stitches, Inc., E&S Auto Parts and Harper Racing, Inc.

Bill Thomas Sprints Into 2004 Season
|
|
Bill
Thomas, driver of the No. 21 Micro Sprint, is geared up for his
third season at Airport Speedway in New Castle, Delaware, and
Bridgeport Speedway in Bridgeport New Jersey. He's ready to tear the
dirt up at both tracks, going wheel to wheel with much older and
more seasoned drivers.
Bridgeport's season begins April 16. Airport goes under the green
flag April 17. Bill Thomas Racing, a family-run team based near
Media, PA, about 12 miles from Philadelphia, is revved up for
another season on dirt.
Coming off strong fourth and fifth place finishes at Orange County
Raceway in Orlando and East Bay Raceway in Tampa, Florida in
February, Bill ran the season-opening day/night Steve Buch Memorial
race at Linda's Speedway, Jonestown Pa., on March 26. He ran his
heat and qualified directly into the A Main. He started
10th of 24 cars in the A Main and finished seventh.
On April 3, Bill ran practice laps at Airport Speedway. The team
tried a new motor and had some problems with it jumping out of gear
but has time to repair it. At Linda's on April 9, Bill started fifth
in the second heat and
finished third. He qualified directly into the A Main, starting 10th
of 24 cars and finishing fourth in a caution-filled race. Bill is
currently second in points at Linda's Speedway.
BTR is proud to announce a full field of sponsors for 2004. Choice

Armstrong. ``I think Billy's going to do well. He's driving himself
now.''
For Dream Stitches, Inc., proprietor Les Berry, who does embroidery

like a good fit. He embroiders T-shirts and hats for the BTR pit
crew.
``It feels pretty good to be involved,'' said Les. ``This is
different from your everyday thing like Little League, so we decided
to provide some equipment.''
