Matt Hasson was born on Sept. 20, 1960, in Darby, PA. He grew up in
the Lawrence Park section of Marple Township, PA, and graduated from
Cardinal O'Hara High School in 1979. He attended Widener University
until 1981 and graduated from Temple University with a bachelor of
arts degree in journalism in 1984. He wrote for the Widener and
Temple school newspapers.
He worked at TV Guide Magazine in Radnor, PA, from 1984 to 1994,
compiling and editing network and cable TV listings. He also wrote
for and edited TVGuide's employee newsletters.
Matt entered journalism in 1994, taking assignments for the County
Press newspapers. He became a correspondent for the Delaware County
Daily Times and Town Talk in 1996. He has also written for the Daily
Local News, News of Delaware County, Metro and Pennsylvania
Magazine.
In 2001, he won the Molson Prize, an award given in Montreal,
Canada, for a feature article that appeared in the Philadelphia,
Montreal and other
editions of Metro around the world. He was the first non-Canadian
winner since 1984.
In 2001, he also tied for first place for features in the Delaware
County Press Club writing contest.
As a journalist, Matt most enjoys writing about education, local
history, music, the outdoors and, of course, motorsports. He also
writes many human
interest stories about non-profit organizations and volunteers.
He and his wife Bev live in Brookhaven, PA. He's an avid racing fan
and also enjoys watching the Philadelphia Flyers. His other
interests include hiking, camping, reading (particularly about
history) and music. He and Bev are a folk music duo called the ``Okie
Dokie Folkies.'' They play guitar, write and sing their own original
songs. |
